Amazon Launches New Partner Competency To Target Enterprise Cloud Migrations
Amazon has been adding new competencies to the AWS Partner Network to encourage existing and new partners to acquire additional capabilities. The latest competency that it announced targets the opportunity to migrate large enterprise workloads to AWS. Along with it, AWS has also added new competencies to recognize partners with skills and technologies related to cloud migration.
The new Migration Competency has a variety of categories, each bringing a specific skill set or expertise related to cloud migration. Amazon has announced the initial set of partners for each category.
The Migration Delivery Partners help customers with the right tools, frameworks, and the strategy of moving their workloads to the public cloud. They are associated with an AWS audited Managed Service Provider to support the customers implement the best practices for achieving optimal performance and compliance. The initial set of partners includes prominent system integrators such as 2nd Watch, Accenture, Cloud Technology Partners, Cognizant Technology Solutions, CSC, Infosys, REAN Cloud, and Slalom Consulting.
The next category of partners delivers consulting services for migration. They provide expertise and training to help enterprises attain specific capabilities or achieve specific outcomes. Through consulting and training, these partners enable adoption of DevOps practices, to modernize applications, and implement solutions. The first few partners to achieve this status include Datapipe and Flux7 among others.
Discovering cloud-ready workloads and applications is an integral part of the migration strategy. The new competency for Migration Technology for Discovery & Planning recognizes partners that can perform the initial ground work to shortlist the applications that can be moved to the cloud. They participate in discovering the IT assets within the customer application portfolio to identify dependencies and requirements. They help enterprises in building a comprehensive migration plan. Atadata, Cloudamize, and RISC Networks are listed under this competency.
Once the workloads and applications that can be moved to the cloud are identified, the migration can be automated through a set of tools. Technology companies such as Racemi, CloudEndure, and Atadata offer tools to ease the pain involved in workload mobility. They can migrate applications to AWS by capturing the host server, configuration, storage, and network states, then provision and configure appropriate AWS resources. This new competency is called Migration Technology for Workload Mobility.
Finally, to get insights into application performance and the instrumentation data of migrated applications, there are a set of companies offering point solutions. They enable customers to gain useful insights into the applications by periodically capturing and analyzing the performance data, usage, and monitoring the dependencies, both before and after migration. The launch partners for this competency include New Relic, AppDynamics, and Dynatrace Ruxit.
Amazon has a framework called AWS Cloud Adoption Framework to provide the guidance, best practices, and tools for adopting the cloud. The framework addresses the concerns that the key decision makers of an organization raise. APN partners are expected to take advantage of the framework as a part of the migration strategy.
Apart from the framework, there are several tools that AWS has built to ease the migration to its cloud. Services such as AWS Database Migration Service, EC2 VM Import/Export, AWS Import/Export Snowball are some of the services that can move both data and workloads to Amazon’s public cloud.
Though startups and mid-sized companies have been more open to move to the public cloud, there is an untapped opportunity existing in the enterprise cloud migration. With the right set of services, tools, competencies, and skilled partner ecosystem, Amazon is moving fast in getting those beefy enterprise workloads to its cloud platform.
