Originally launched in 2012, ATADATA is a United States based startup developing automation software for discovery and migration of live server workloads across disparate infrastructure architectures. This includes to, and between, Hyper-V and Azure platforms, regardless of OS & Database types, or amount of attached storage. ATADATA’s technology solution is a completely agentless deployment that interfaces directly with Azure and Hyper-V API. ATAmotion can migrate multiple live servers simultaneously, running any Azure supported OS or Database technology, and supports any size attached dataset. According to CEO and CTO Charles Wright, “Our aim is to remove the ambiguity in manual discovery through automation. Our multi-threaded architecture takes advantage of bandwidth and allows for rapid data transfer speeds, on any available data pipe.”
In addition to its baseline ATAmotion Migration Module, ATADATA provides wide ranging data solutions for migration. The ATAvision Discovery Module provides a “view of the truth” by supplying hard data to blueprint source infrastructure and map applications. Secure data discovery and transfer is accomplished using proprietary agentless architectures. This, alongside source to target methodology and lightweight, on premise deployment of the technology suite means your customer’s data is secure and always in their control.
The ATADATA Transformation Suite discovers, clones, migrates with an option for OS upgrading, and syncs your existing servers, across hypervisors, to the cloud and between data center platforms. The transformation suite is an omni-platform technology that integrates with any major cloud, hypervisor or physical data center and any supported operating system. “There is no such thing as a ‘vendor lock-in’ when offering our suite of products to your customers,” continues Ian Easton, head of sales, marketing, and business development.
A self-funded startup, ATADATA has experienced significant growth since joining the Microsoft program. According to Wright, “Since writing our entire platform on Microsoft technology, we have grown to over 7 figures in revenue, and are likely to quadruple that total in the next fiscal year, with Q1 2016 already surpassing all of 2015.
A BizSpark member, ATADATA is more invested in Microsoft technologies than simply facilitating Azure migration services. ATADATA leverages several Microsoft products to ensure the quality of their solution. Deploying on Windows Server, ATADATA utilizes .NET for its language interoperability and database connectivity, IIS, and SQL Server because of its rapid queries and advanced analytics.

Although ATADATA does not use open source technologies exclusively, ATADATA’s decision to build their solution, using Microsoft products, was rooted in its compatibility with a wide variety of open source. As an example, the company automates Microsoft Windows in-place OS upgrades in-flight and remediate Linux derivatives during workload cloning processes.
“Our software is being used today to migrate live enterprise customer servers and workloads to Azure. Our holistic solution truly simplifies what is traditionally a very complex, manual and painful process. Clients are now able to migrate live complex application environments to the Azure cloud, and also enable hybridity, without a massive services undertaking. The fact that we are seeing growing adoption, and already have reference Azure enterprise migration clients, is validation of our partnership with Microsoft” Wright explains.
