An IaaS cloud provider was challenged by a division of one of the largest multinational conglomerates to migrate their test and production servers from their current datacenter to their IaaS platform.
The aim of the project was to lower the total cost of ownership for the client’s infrastructure, benefit from increased agility in the cloud, and realize performance and service level benefits for critical applications.

The first challenge was to perform a discovery and understand the application dependencies and then be able to move 90 workloads within a 6 week period. After configuring the Console, discovering the source environment, and understanding the dependencies the team went to work and moved the first migration waves with ease.
With those successful migrations completed the customer presented them with a bigger challenge, to move their production systems without taking the production environment offline for any extended period.
Multiple challenges would be presented:
- Migrating production servers without affecting performance
- No extended downtime during the migration
- Moving large amounts of data over the wire
Migration projects are typically delivered utilizing a highly manual process, and minimal automation, increasing the risk of errors and lengthy engagements. ATADATA simplifies migrations through automation and orchestration, target environments are auto-provisioned, data transfer is direct from source to target and business disruption minimized.
With the proprietary transfer engine utilized in ATAmotion, ATADATA achieved an average speed of 16.23MB/s during transfers. Below is a sample of the data sizes and migration times (start to finish) from the project:

Our agentless and lightweight architecture allows for rapid, effective, and secure solution delivery. Detailed ATAvision reporting enabled fact-driven migration wave planning and with a data-informed migration plan in place, the team was able to execute migrations with ATAmotion ahead of schedule. Migrations were 100% successful, there was no unscheduled downtime, or business disruption, across very complex multi-tiered critical business applications. The security, compliance, performance, efficiency and consumption-based billing for complex production applications has enabled them to enhance IT operations, reduce risk and offload IT management, thereby redirecting IT resources to focus on other strategic projects and business process improvements.
